The second in a series of workshops entitled "Statistics for Better Decisions: Potential for Municipalities, Cities and Economy" was held in Kragujevac, as part of the EU4SORS project - Development of a Modern Statistical System, implemented by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (SRS) with the support of the European Union.
The aim of the EU4SORS project is to establish a Decision Support System and a Statistical Population Register, which represent the foundation for improving the efficiency, coherence and adaptability of the national statistical system.
The workshop presented the results of a pilot survey on data needed for decision-making at the local level, in the areas of economy, social development and environmental protection. Special attention was paid to methodological and organizational challenges, as well as the presentation of new digital solutions that will enable local governments to analyse and use statistical data more efficiently.
The participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the platform for the future portal, that is, with an example of the "Analytics" solution, and the opportunities offered by the application of new technologies in statistics.
Mira Nikić, project manager, emphasized: “The surveys we conduct allow us to map the real needs of local governments and regional chambers, thereby building a unique database of indicators relevant to social, economic and environmental policies.”
The workshop brought together representatives of local self-governments and regional chambers of commerce from central and southern Serbia who will be involved in the further implementation of the system.
As the final result of the project, a modern, integrated statistical system will be established at the service of institutions, businesses and citizens, which will contribute to a better understanding of local needs, making better decisions and encouraging sustainable development.
